Actel Corporation is a supplier of innovative programmable logic solutions, including field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) based on antifuse and flash technologies, high-performance intellectual property (IP) cores, software development tools and design services targeted for the high-speed communications, application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) replacement and radiation-tolerant markets. Actel markets its products through a worldwide, multi-tiered sales and distribution network. The company’s North American sales network includes distribution leaders such as Pioneer Standard and Unique Technologies. Actel’s regional office in the United Kingdom, supplemented by sales offices in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Sweden, manages a network of distributors throughout the European and Middle Eastern markets. Actel’s offices in Japan, Korea and China manage a network of distributors throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Actel Libero and Actel Designer solutions include design tools recognized by the industry as among the easiest to use and most complete high-level tools for FPGA devices. The company also offers the Silicon Explorer, a hardware/software design verification and debugging tool. John East, chief executive officer and president, joined Actel in December of 1988. East came to Actel with more than 20 years experience in the semiconductor industry. East had been a senior vice president at AMD where he was responsible for the Logic Products Group. He also held various marketing, engineering and management positions at Raytheon Semiconductor and Fairchild Semiconductor. He currently serves on the board of directors of Adaptec Corporation (Nasdaq: ADPT) and Single Chip Corporation, a privately held company. East holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of California, Berkeley.

Esmat Hamdy, senior vice president, technology and operations, co-founded Actel in 1985. Hamdy is a co-inventor of Actel’s PLICE antifuse technology. He has been senior vice president, technology and operations since 1996 and has held a number of management positions with the company’s technology and development group. Before co-founding Actel, Hamdy held various positions at Intel Corporation and was responsible for device development and design of CMOS-process DRAMs and 386 microprocessors. He holds a master’s degree in applied science and a doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

Jon Anderson, vice president, finance and chief financial officer, joined Actel in March 1998 as corporate controller and was promoted to his new role in August 2001. Anderson has nearly 15 years of experience in all facets of financial management in the semiconductor industry. Prior to joining the company, he spent 11 years at National Semiconductor where he worked in various financial positions and five years at the public accounting firm of Touche Ross & Co. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration (accounting) from the University of Washington.

Jim Davis, vice president, engineering, joined Actel in 1997. Davis brings more than 25 years of industry experience to his position at Actel. Previously, Davis held several management positions in technology and development for Tandem Computers. He also worked as a project engineer at Amdahl Corporation where he supported EDA software development, ASICs and multi-chip carriers. Davis holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Chico State University and a master’s degree in computer science from the University of California, Davis.

Tony Farinaro, vice president and general manager, design services, joined Actel in August 1998 with more than 14 years of industry experience. He spent nine years at GateField as vice president, application and design services, handling business development and delivery of design services for FPGA and ASIC systems. Farinaro also held management and engineering positions at Plessey Electronic Systems and Singer Kearfott. He has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in business administration from Seton Hall University.

Paul Indaco, vice president, worldwide sales, joined Actel in 1999. Indaco has 24 years semiconductor industry experience. He held a similar position with Chip Express of Santa Clara, California. Indaco also held senior sales management positions with Redwood Microsystems and LSI Logic and field engineering sales and marketing positions with Intel Corporation and Texas Instruments. Indaco holds a master’s degree in business administration as well as master’s and bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering.

Dennis Kish, vice president, marketing, joined Actel in 1999 as vice president of strategic marketing. He has since taken over the entire marketing organization. Kish has 15 years marketing, sales and engineering experience in the semiconductor and electronic design automation industries. Before joining Actel, Kish held senior management positions at Synopsys and Atmel. He began his career in the engineering and sales organizations of Texas Instruments. Kish earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Michigan State University.

Barry Marsh, vice president, product marketing, joined Actel in 2000. Marsh has more than 15 years of strategic and product marketing experience in the semiconductor and electronics industries. Before joining Actel, he held various senior marketing positions at Fujitsu Microelectronics Inc., including director of marketing for both the ASIC and wireless business units. Prior to Fujitsu, Marsh helped to define company and product positioning for an ASIC start-up company, Vertex Semiconductor. He has also held management positions at Amdahl and Hughes Aircraft Company. Marsh holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from California State University, Long Beach and a master’s of science in management from the Sloan School of Management, MIT.

Barbara McArthur, vice president, human resources, joined Actel in July of 2000 and is responsible for managing all of the company's strategic staffing and human resources programs. McArthur has more than 20 years of human resources and management experience. Prior to joining Actel, she was vice president of human resources at Talus Solutions and has held senior human resource positions at Applied Materials, 3Com and Saga Corporation. She holds a bachelor of science degree from Oregon State University in Corvallis.

Fares Mubarak, vice president, engineering, joined Actel in 1992 and has been vice president of engineering since 1997. In 1999, he assumed responsibility for all of the company’s software and hardware engineering. Before coming to Actel, Mubarak held various engineering, engineering management and product planning positions with Samsung Semiconductor Inc., its spin-off, Integrated Circuit Works, Inc. and Advanced Micro Devices. Mubarak holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from Case Western Reserve University and a master’s in business administration from Golden State University.

David Van De Hey, vice president and general counsel, joined Actel in 1993 as corporate counsel. He became secretary in 1994 and has been vice president and general counsel since 1995. From 1988 to 1993, he was an associate with Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich and Rosati Professional Corporation, a law firm in Palo Alto, Calif., and the company’s outside legal counsel. From 1985 to 1988, he was an associate with the Cleveland law office of Jones, Day, Reavis and Pogue.
